A slice of ripe tomato stolen from a salad is a non-event. The cases vets actually see come from gardens: dogs that graze on vines, chew fallen green fruit, or dig around tomato beds all summer. If you grow tomatoes, fence the bed or pick low fruit early.
Processed tomato is a different question
Sauce, ketchup, salsa, and soup are usually built on onion, garlic, salt, and sugar — skip them regardless of how safe the tomato itself is. Sharing tomato means sharing it plain: ripe, red, cut small, stems and leaves gone.
